Andy Murray from Scotland, became the first Brit. to win the Championship at Wimbledon in seventy-seven years!

I just finished watching the game, and deliberately didn't check my f'list or listen to any news before watching! A great game, what a day.:)

Well done Andy!

Edited to say I have changed the link to a more informative one.

Our German girl unfortunately lost her finale but yeah it was a great game :) And 77 years is a long time ;) We are only waiting for 14 years ;)

I saw the ladies final, it was good.

There was a Brit who one the ladies in '77 Virginia Wade, but this is the first for the men in seventy-seven years; a really great match.

I hear you are to have a visitor in August.:))

Well we had Boris Becker, Micheal Stich and Steffi Graf as winners, so I guess we can't really complain *laugh*

And yes I will indeed get a visitor in August and am totally looking forward to it :D

I hardly ever watch tennis anymore, but I know my mum will be dancing with joy.

And I did try to see the last of the final, but the channel showing it wouldn't cooperate.

I hope your mum was able to see the match, it was excellent!

I recorded it, and watched it first thing this morning. I'm sorry your channel wasn't being friendly.:)

Tennis is the only sport I watch, even then, I miss more than I watch!

It was just lovely to watch, and to know after his defeat of last year, this was his year to be the champion.:)

Just curious, do the Brits consider a Scot one of their own? For some reason I imagined that animosity still persisted.
Jul. 8th, 2013 05:05 pm (UTC)
The answer to that question could take on thesis form!!

When you say do the Brits consider a Scot, one of their own? it leaves out the fact that Scots are Brits. If you mean, do the English consider Scots to be Brits? that depends on the person, and at times the circumstances.

Remembering that I haven't lived in Scotland for many years, I consider myself Scottish, more than British. When talking with my family and friends who have always lived in Scotland, that is most definitely how they view it. Others will have a different view.

As a whole Scotland, has changed greatly over the last three decades, with one of the main changes being a great pride in being Scottish. I grew up with that pride instilled in me.

With the referendum next year, and the fact Scotland does already have its own parliament, from what I have been told, there is animosity, but then there always has been.

Was so happy to hear he'd won when I woke up the next morning. I started to watch the match but it was on late at night here and I couldn't stay awake until the end unfortunately.

He did a great job!

Match time was the middle of the night here, so I recorded it and watched first thing...much as I would have loved to see it live, there was no way I was staying up all night.:)

Seeing you comment, I am hopeful your eye surgery went well.
Jul. 12th, 2013 12:16 pm (UTC)
It went very well thank you. Nowhere near as much pain after as the other eye which is great.
